A word from the Editor-in-Chief

Dear Alumni,

In light of the upcoming 90th anniversary of The Heights, I know I speak for the whole board when I say it is thanks to the groundwork laid by the editors who came before us that the paper is what it is today: an award-winning publication that’s read not only by 80 percent of the student population, but by countless faculty members, administrators, parents, and alumni alike.

The Heights has thrived for so long because every year, a new crop of editors with a myriad of skills and talents work hard to make this paper the best it can be, and 2009 is no exception. With 23 new board members joining 15 returning editors, we have plenty of fresh ideas with which we will continue to improve The Heights’ design and quality of writing, as well as its influence and reach on campus.

In addition to a new staff system, which you can read about inside this newsletter, we’ve expanded the role of the outreach coordinator to act as a liaison to the Boston College Community. In the coming months, we hope to expand our presence at BC by hosting speakers, panels, and writing workshops on campus. We’ve also added an assistant graphics design editor to our ranks and are working constantly to improve the visual appeal of the paper. These changes come at the very start of this board’s tenure on The Heights, though. We are committed to bettering the paper with every month that passes.

The opportunity to work for The Heights is all thanks to alumni like you. That’s why we will continue to host our annual alumni dinner. This year, I invite you to join us on April 25 at Maggiano’s in Boston, where you’ll be able to reconnect with old friends, as well as meet a new generation of Heights editors.

I look forward to meeting you in April.

 Best Regards,

Alexi Chi
